About Diploma in Radiology / Medical Imaging Technology

Radiology Technician (Diploma in Medical Imaging Technology) is a 2-year program that trains you to operate diagnostic imaging equipment — X-Ray machines, CT Scanners, MRI machines, Ultrasound devices, and digital radiography systems. Every hospital and diagnostic centre needs qualified radiology technicians.

This is one of the highest-paying paramedical diplomas because of the technical skill involved. Operating a ₹3–5 crore MRI machine requires trained hands — hospitals value this expertise. CT and MRI technicians consistently earn more than general lab technicians.

The course includes radiation physics, imaging techniques, patient positioning, radiation safety (AERB guidelines), and practical training in hospital radiology departments. Modern training covers digital PACS systems, 3D reconstruction, and contrast media protocols.

In Maharashtra, Radiology Technician courses are offered at government hospitals (KEM, Sion, JJ, Sassoon) and private paramedical colleges. Government training is virtually free (₹10K–₹25K/year) with direct hospital exposure. The career upgrade path leads to B.Sc Medical Imaging Technology and eventually to specialized MRI/CT/Cath Lab technician roles.

Counselor's Honest Take — Radiology Technician

NK
Nikhil Kadam
Admission Counselor, ScholarshipOnline

Nobody talks about Radiology Technician, but it’s genuinely one of the best-kept secrets in healthcare education. I did this course, and within 6 months of graduating I was earning ₹25,000/month operating CT and MRI machines. That’s better than many engineering graduates.

Here’s why Radiology is special: every hospital needs imaging, and machines can’t run without trained technicians. As hospitals add more CT scanners and MRI machines, the demand keeps growing. And the technology keeps upgrading — digital radiography, 3D imaging, PET-CT — so there’s always something new to learn.

My advice: get trained at a government hospital where they have the latest equipment. Sion Hospital, KEM, JJ Hospital in Mumbai have excellent radiology departments. After the diploma, do B.Sc in Medical Imaging Technology (2 years) to boost your salary to ₹35K–50K/month.
